PF1-XL Forming Cycle — Step by Step.

Sheet Loading

Large-format sheet loaded via overhead crane or autoloader onto aperture frame

Aperture Clamping

Motorised universal aperture clamps sheet — supports sheets up to 3000×2000mm

Sandwich Heating

Extended IR heater bank heats large sheet uniformly — zone-by-zone pyrometer control

Pre-Blow

Sheet pre-blown to controlled bubble — critical for deep-draw large parts

Vacuum Forming

Servo table rises, high-flow vacuum fires — sheet formed over large mould

Cooling & Unloading

High-capacity blowers cool large formed part — crane or autoloader removes

What Are the Key Features of the PF1-XL?

Closed Chamber with Pre-Blow

Bottom heater retracts to allow controlled sheet sag, then air pressure pre-stretches the sheet before mold contact, ensuring uniform wall thickness even on 1000mm deep draws across large forming areas.

Multi-Zone Infrared Heating

Individual zone control across top and bottom heater banks for precise temperature profiling — critical for HDPE and other materials with narrow forming windows.

Sheet Sag Detection

Infrared sensors continuously monitor sheet sag during heating, automatically adjusting heater output to prevent excessive sagging on extra-large sheets.

Servo-Driven Forming Platen

Programmable speed profiles for optimal sheet-to-mold contact during the forming stroke, with up to 50-ton clamping force.

Why Choose the PF1-XL for Large-Format Thermoforming?

Single-Piece Large Parts

Eliminate joins and seams - produce full-size bed-liners, bathtubs, and nacelle covers in one forming cycle. Reduces material waste by 15-25% compared to multi-piece forming.

All-Electric Servo Drives

Programmable speed profiles for optimal sheet-to-mold contact. Up to 50-ton clamping force with precise position control for consistent part quality.

Sag Detection & Auto-Correction

IR sensors monitor sheet sag in real-time across the full 6m width. Automatic heater adjustment prevents defects on extra-large sheets.

60-80% Lower Tooling Cost

Compared to injection moulding, thermoforming tooling for large parts costs a fraction - making XL ideal for low-to-medium volume production runs.

Built for the Biggest Applications

The PF1-XL is the machine of choice when standard forming areas aren't enough. Whether you're producing 6-metre horticulture trays, deep-drawn HDPE bed-liners, or thermoformed wind turbine nacelle covers - the XL series delivers the forming area, draw depth, and heater power to get the job done.

IR Ceramic, Quartz & Halogen.

Every PF1-XL ships with your choice of heater element type. For extra-large forming areas, heater selection has a significant impact on energy consumption and cycle time.

IR Ceramic heater elements in PF1-XL ovenMost Popular

IR Ceramic

Wavelength: Long-wave (4–8 µm)
Power: 500 W/element (top) · 400 W (bottom)
Best for: ABS, HIPS, PP, HDPE, PC — general heavy-gauge thermoforming

Advantages

  • Lowest element cost
  • Long service life (3–5 years)
  • Uniform heat distribution
  • Easy element replacement

Considerations

  • ·Slower response vs quartz
  • ·Not ideal for PMMA/acrylic
IR Quartz heater elements in PF1-XL ovenFastest Cycle

IR Quartz

Wavelength: Short-wave (1–2.5 µm)
Power: 1000–2000 W/element
Best for: PMMA (acrylic), PC, thin-gauge ABS — where fast heat-up is critical

Advantages

  • Fastest heat-up (30–60 s)
  • Excellent for acrylic/PMMA
  • High power density
  • Good zone control

Considerations

  • ·Higher element cost
  • ·Shorter life than ceramic
  • ·Requires pyrometer for control
IR Halogen heater elements in PF1-XL ovenPrecision Control

IR Halogen

Wavelength: Near-infrared (0.8–1.4 µm)
Power: 500–1500 W/element
Best for: Transparent materials (PC, PETG, PET) — where deep penetration is needed

Advantages

  • Deepest material penetration
  • Instant on/off response
  • Excellent for transparent sheets
  • Precise zone control

Considerations

  • ·Higher initial cost
  • ·Sensitive to contamination
  • ·Requires clean environment

Heater selection for extra-large format machines

For PF1-XL machines with forming areas above 3000×2000mm, IR Ceramic is recommended for most applications due to its lower running cost and longer element life. IR Quartz is preferred for PMMA/acrylic processing where fast, even heat-up is critical. Our engineers will advise on the optimal heater layout and zone configuration for your specific forming area and material.
